The Story Behind The Summer Stitch: How a Passion Became a Purpose

When the world slowed down during the pandemic, life as we knew it changed. Amidst uncertainty, many of us turned inward, reflecting on our paths, dreams, and passions. For me, it was during these reflective moments that the seeds of The Summer Stitch were planted.

As a Rajasthani, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for the vibrant textiles and the timeless artistry that define my homeland. The rich heritage of handblock prints and the intricate craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations felt like something too valuable to let fade away. Yet, as modern fashion trends took center stage, I noticed that traditional textiles weren’t always getting the recognition they deserved.

During the pandemic, I found myself reconnecting with my roots, researching artisans, and vendors in Rajasthan. I felt an undeniable pull to not only preserve but also celebrate these traditions. It was this passion that led me to launch The Summer Stitch, a brand dedicated to promoting Indian textiles while empowering women through the art of handmade clothing.

But it wasn’t just about the fabric or the prints—it was about something much bigger. Alongside my mother, we envisioned a brand that not only brought beautiful clothing to life but also gave back to the community. Through a meaningful partnership with an NGO, where they upskill women from grief-stricken localities, offering them a platform to channel their skills into sustainable livelihoods. The production of our clothes became more than a process; it became a story of resilience, empowerment, and hope.

The journey wasn’t easy. Bootstrapping The Summer Stitch was a challenge, and we quickly realized that running a 100% women-led business would require grit, creativity, and a lot of learning. Yet, it was also incredibly rewarding. Each piece of clothing we create carries with it not just the beauty of traditional Indian art, but the story of the women who craft it, the heritage of Rajasthan, and our commitment to ethical practices.

From day one, we’ve stayed true to our belief in ethical pricing. Our goal has always been to create a space where quality and tradition meet, without exploiting either the craft or the artisans. We believe fashion should be accessible, beautiful, and conscious.

Today, The Summer Stitch is more than just a clothing brand; it’s a movement. A movement to uplift women, honor traditional craftsmanship, and provide a platform where beauty and purpose intersect. As we grow, we’re constantly inspired by our customers—strong, empowered individuals who share our passion for slow fashion, sustainability, and the stories behind the clothes they wear.

As we continue to weave our story, we invite you to be a part of this journey. Every stitch, every block print, and every piece of clothing is a tribute to the timeless beauty of Indian textiles and the strength of the women who make them.

Here’s to many more summers of stitching together fashion, tradition, and empowerment.
